Ferndale Cars Parked Elsewhere During Construction Easy Targets
Windows were broken out of at least seven vehicles, many of them parked in a church parking lot.
FERNDALE, MI — Several homeowners who have resorted to parking in nearby lots while their streets are under construction say that made their vehicles vulnerable to larceny, according to a report from WDIV-TV.
Windows were smashed and items were stolen from at least seven vehicles in the overnight hours of July 14. The larcenies were concentrated in an area between Woodward Avenue and Pinecrest Drive, including a church parking lot off Hazelhurst Street, which is closed to traffic during a construction project.
Some homeowners are unable to access their driveways. Others, like Michael Krueger and his wife, sometimes park in lots because it's such a hassle to get in and out of it.

“I would imagine if my car was in my driveway they might be less likely to do it since they have to go so close to the house, but who knows,” Krueger said. “Here, it’s like a car lot!”

It will be several days before residents of Hazelhurst Street can get back on their streets and in their driveways.
One person whose vehicle was damaged had only had it for three days.
