Ferndale Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident on Sunday
Police said the man was not wearing a helmet, the Detroit Free Press reports.

A Ferndale man died early Sunday morning after his motorcycle crashed in Oak Park, according to the Detroit Free Press.
The man, who has not been identified, was traveling on eastbound I-696 and crashed near Greenfield Road after he missed his exit and tried to cut across the pavement, according to the article.
Michigan State Police told the Free Press the man and his female passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The man, who was not wearing a helmet, hit his head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital for cuts and bruises.

Mayor expresses condolences
At Monday night's Ferndale City Council meeting, Mayor Dave Coulter expressed his condolences to the family of the 36-year-old Ferndale resident.
"I want his family to know our thoughts and prayers are with them," he said. "It's a terrible thing to happen."

Coulter encouraged residents to wear a helmet, even though .
"Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something," he said. "I want to just encourage our residents who ride motorcycles to remember this tragic incident and maybe keep the helmet on even if you don't have to."
