Ferndale Man Likely Already Dead When Pickup Hit Utility Pole
Described as a loner, Paul Kish, 53, was likely driving himself to the hospital when he died and lost control of his vehicle, police said.

Ferndale, MI — Police think a Ferndale man whose pickup crashed into a utility pole Sunday morning was already dead when the accident occurred.
The victim, Paul Kish, 53, was found dead inside his truck on Woodward Avenue at Oakridge Street about 6:15 a.m. Sunday.
He was suffering from lung cancer, Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson said.

“He had a bloody towel on the seat next to him,” Wilson told The Daily Tribune. “We’re surmising that because of his medical issues he was probably driving himself to the hospital when he died and lost control of his vehicle.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday that Kish’s death was from lung cancer, and not as a result of the accident.

[RECIRC[Kish, a retired carpenter, was “a loner” who lived by himself, Wilson said.
He had no known survivors in the Ferndale area and police have been unable to locate next of kin.
