Ferndale Mayor Helping Gay Couples Tie the Knot after Historic Ruling
After federal judge's ruling striking down 10-year ban on same-sex marriage, the mayor of a Detroit suburb is making it easier for Michiganders to get married.
Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter said Saturday he would officiate marriage ceremonies at Affirmations, 290 W. Nine Mile between 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., a day after U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman struck down the State of Michigan’s ban on same sex marriages.
“It is officially past midnight and the dawn of a new day, marriage is now equal in the State of Michigan,” Coulter said.
The plan was to officiate ceremonies on a first-come. first-serve dbasis.

Couples unable to attend Saturday’s services should contact the City Clerk’s office on Monday at (248) 546-2381 to schedule a ceremony, he said.
Couples must be residents of the state of Michigan and should have a marriage license from Oakland County. Licenses can be obtained this morning during limited hours at the Oakland County Clerk’s Office located at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac, Michigan.
