Ferndale Microbrewery a Catalyst for More Investment: Mayor

Axle Brewing Co. will seek final approval of its $1.5 million plan to transform old industrial building in to a microbrewery and taproom.

Ferndale, MI — Mayor Dave Coulter says he thinks anew craft brewery and taproom expected to open in an old industrial building at 567 Livernois will stimulate more business development in the area.

Royal Oak-based Axle Brewing Co. will go before the Ferndale City Council on Monday to get final approval for Livernois Tap & Brewery. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

“I’m excited about this project and think it will be a catalyst for other entrepreneurs to take a look at Livernois,” Coulter told The Daily Tribune. “It’s been a long term goal of the city to revitalize the Livernois corridor -- not as a second downtown, but with its own unique character and businesses.”

The 10,000-square-foot building will have both brewing facilities and a taproom with seating for 75 seats inside and seasonal patio seating for 60.

About 15 beers will be available for tasting in what Axle president Dan Riley promises will be a community- and family-oriented establishment. The business is expected to open this fall.
