Ferndale Patch Gears Up with Woodward Dream Cruise Coverage

Get ready for a lot of cars, a lot of people and a lot of heritage.

Some love it, some hate it, but no matter where you stand (or what side of Woodward you live on), you can't avoid it.

On Aug. 20, the Woodward Dream Cruise is officially here. But those of us who live in the area know that the classic cars, revved engines and lawn chair car enthusiasts start popping up considerably before, and trail at least a week after.

For those who don't know what the Woodward Dream Cruise is, congratulations. You've seem to successfully avoid a three-day traffic jam, filled with classic cars circling Woodward from Eight Mile north to Pontiac and back again If you don't know what it is, the Woodward Dream Cruise an event that takes over Woodward and gives it to car enthusiasts, classic car buffs and anyone who wants to tip their hat to Detroit's automotive heritage.

In any case, Ferndale has three days of events planned, as it normally does. (A schedule of events is listed below.) With that, however, Ferndale Patch will also be tacking on some coverage.

Today, we're launching the beginning of an ongoing series of profiles of cars and their owners. Cool cars, old cars, fancy cars, retro cars ... you name it, we're profiling it. Check out the first profile . Every day we'll publish a new profile for you gearheads to oggle.

Then, starting the week of the Woodward Dream Cruise, instead of plopping down a lawn chair along Woodward to get ready for the big event, we'll be running around and doing a few stories, taking a lot of pictures and giving you the info you need to either navigate through or around the Woodward Dream Cruise.

We have a few stories planned, but if you have something to pass along, whether it's tips on an interesting car, someone coming from a long way away (and we're not talking Bad Axe, but something a little farther), you have the skinny on a cool event or anything else that might be of interested to Dream Cruisers, drop us a line by emailing Ferndale Patch editor Terry Parris Jr. at terry.parris@patch.com.
