Ferndale Woman Suspected of Embezzling from Metro Parent Publishing

Ferndale business owner reports about $20,000 stolen over about three years.

Ferndale Police arrested a 37-year-old Ferndale woman who is suspected of embezzling $20,000 from where she worked as an office manager.

The business contacted Ferndale Police on July 16. "The business owner told police she discovered the suspect had been embezzling from her company for the past three years," Ferndale Police Lt. Detective William Wilson said.

Wilson said the business owner reported that the suspect used the company credit card to purchase items and then sold them on Amazon.com. According to Wilson, the owner suspected about $20,000 was embezzled.

Ferndale Police, Wilson said, will investigate the actual dollar amount.

"The owner (also) found the suspect would use company credit cards to make over purchases of office supplies and keep the extras for herself," Wilson said.

Additionally, the owner told Wilson that the suspect would misrepresent herself as a review blogger for the company to receive free products from other companies.

"The company owner said that she confronted the suspect who admitted to the embezzlement," Wilson said.

Wilson said Ferndale police have investigated the claims and arrested the suspect for various thefts.

The case is expected to be presented to the prosecutor today. Wilson said charges and sentencing could vary.
