'This Isn't Shopping at the Mall': Ferndale Art Show
More than two dozen artists and artisans will bring one-of-kind fine art and handmade wares to annual show.

Holiday shoppers interested in giving one-of-a-kind gifts may find what they’re looking for Saturday at the Ridge Fine Art & Handmade Wares Show, an event that has grown since it was founded 16 years ago to attract about 1,000 people.
The show will be held from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Drayton Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2441 Pinecrest.

Artist and entrepreneur Siouxsan Miller, of Ferndale, founded the show 16 years ago to bring artists and buyers together. Works by 25 artists and artisans will be featured this year. Prices range from $3 to $200.
“The show has always been about being Michigan-centric and shopping local and supporting local artists,” Miller told The Daily Tribune, “even though that wasn’t in our mind set when we first started.

“Back then we just wanted people to come in and have a hands-on experience and meet the artists face-to-face,” she said. “Nowadays shopping local and buying Michigan products is a given.”
“This isn’t like shopping online or at the mall,” Miller said. “You get to meet the person who made the art and experience their passion and energy and hear their story.”
