Overweight Teens Threaten Boys with Gun after Losing Pickup B-Ball Game

After two boys, 7 and 13, beat two overweight older teens in a pickup basketball game Monday at Harding Park, an altercation ensued that resulted in threats with a handgun, Ferndale Police said.

Police received a report about 5:30 p.m.,  from a 7- and 13-year-old, that they were assaulted with a handgun, Ferndale Lt. Detective Williams Wilson said.

"The boys said they had just won a basketball game against two older boys, about 17 and 18 years old, in Harding Park," Wilson said. "After the game the two groups had a verbal altercation and exchanged obscenities."

Wilson said the younger boys started walking on Wolcott Street when the older boys, described as both 6 feet tall, black and 300 pounds, pulled up in a car -- possibly a 2003 or 2004 light blue Mercury Grand Marquis, Wilson said.

"(The passenger) held a black and silver handgun out of the passenger side window and stated, 'What do you think now?'" Wilson said. The younger boys reported the person with the gun was wearing a red shirt and khaki shorts.

Wilson said the vehicle then traveled south on Wolcott then west on Woodward Heights. The driver was wearing a black and white Nike shirt and black shorts, the younger boys reported.
