The ordinance would allow residents to park on-street from 4 p.m. to midnight on some designated streets, The Oakland Press reports.

Visitors would still be able to park for up to two hours under the proposed code, which is meant to balance the needs of homeowners, business owners, downtown employees and visitors.

Assistant City Manager Joseph Gacioch said the proposed plan is “resident oriented” and would require annual parking permits.

The ordinance could come up for consideration at the Nov. 9 meeting. If approved, it could be implemented as early as March.

“This is not the sexiest issue but it’s an important one and there are no perfect answers,” Mayor Dave Coulter said. “I think you’ve struck a balance here that has the potential to be successful.”
