Photo Gallery: Earth Day Party at the Loving Touch

and the Earth were the guests of honor Friday night at the Earth Day party organized by the Ferndale Environmental Sustainability Commission (FESC).

The party at the concluded , a weeklong schedule of green events throughout the city.

FESC Chairman Douglas Christie announced Garden Fresh Gourmet as winner of Ferndale's Green Business of the Year award.

"Each year, they have excelled in areas of sustainability and greening," Christie said. "From the day they opened the doors and every day after, as they've grown to be the largest producer of fresh salsa in North America, they've been conscious to their local environment. They've reduced their carbon footprint and enhanced their practices of disposal, recycling and reducing waste."

Representatives from Garden Fresh Gourmet were not on hand to accept the award because of a family obligation.

Garden Fresh Gourmet joins previous winners , the and the Foley & Mansfield building.
