Readers' Choice: Blumz Voted Best Florist in Ferndale

We're on a quest to rate the best of the best in Ferndale. This week, we asked Patch readers to vote for the .

in Ferndale came out on top with 79 percent of votes, and came in second with 17 percent of votes.

Blumz is owned by Jerome Raska and Robbin Yelverton, both educators in the floral industry who travel around the country teaching floral design.

"That kind of gives us an edge on most other floral operations in the area," Raska said, adding that the shop is on the forefront as far as trends and products in the floral industry. He said Blumz is known for its product knowledge and creative designs, as well as its helpful staff.

"We have incredible people working for us that carry the torch for us," he said. "I think that's really what sets us apart."

You can buy flowers anywhere, Raska said, but it's how they were handled, where they came from, that can make a difference.

Blumz is also known for its outreach in the community, sponsoring school events, local non-profit organizations and donating flowers to charity events on a regular basis.

"What we like best about the Ferndale area is it's a family. Everyone here is extremely supportive of each other. We value that and I think it's important and I think it's unique," he said. "The electricity that Ferndale has and the support that it has for its business community is very unique. We should all be very proud of that."

For Blumz, "that's just what we do," Raska says of supporting the community. "Flowers are a beautiful thing that can bring comfort and create a smile on someone's face and you can do that so inexpensively as giving just a single stem all the way up to a grand bouquet. The reality is that if we all just tried to put smiles on everyone's faces once in a while we'd have an even better world than we do today."
