The Scarab Club presents "Living Lucid" - The Artwork of Jayde Williams

As a part of “Emerging Artist” series of shows, the historic ScarabClub (located behind the Detroit Institute of Arts) will host a one-night solo show displaying the artwork of Jayde Williams.

Free Admission.

This one night show runs in conjunction each third Thursday with the Dr. Sketchy Art Class on the first floor of the Scarab Club, and the lower level Sketch Sessions.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jayde Williams is an artist currently living in Fabulous Ferndale, who incorporates fantasy in a large amount of her work. From a young age, she focused on the intricate details and themes that came from fantastic creatures from lore and children’s books, nature and the world around her. Her inspirations have come from books such as Alice in Wonderland, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, and The Hobbit. Her artistic mediums range from mixed media, watercolor, pen and ink, pencil realism, acrylic, metals and ceramics, and her attention to detail is seen in her process, whether she is rendering from reality or from fiction.

“I love to work on a small scale with tiny details, which in part is why I want to work for LAIKA in Oregon, making the props and dolls for their stop motion creations. I have a deep-seated interest in traditional and stop-motion animation, founded in my love of drawing with pencil and making detailed handcrafted art. I find inspiration in details that come from simple objects that others may take for granted: Outer space, birds, insects, curly hair, smoke wisps, plant life, crystals, tea sets, deep sea creatures and dreamcatchers to name a few.”

Jayde has been awarded a Gold Key for Portfolio at the Scholastic Art Awards, a Merit Scholarship to the College of Creative Studies, and recently she was honored with being jury selected for the prestigious Scarab Club’s 100th Anniversary Gold Medal Exhibition.
