“Visceral” honors the shift into the autumn season with paintings exploring death as it contributes to new life and vitality. As trees and ground will soon be laid bare in the passing season, so these paintings celebrate the bareness of bones with the transformation of time. These works incorporate anatomical elements to delve into the subtler nuances of human existence, exploring themes of secrecy and transparency, solitude and companionship. “’Visceral’ is about the elemental essence of things, that primal sense in the guts that cannot be logically quantified or reasoned,” Harnish comments. “The latest paintings prod at the heart of the matter or ‘getting down to the bones, so to speak.’”
