• Consumers Energy to close final in-person service centers in Flint, Saginaw (midmichigannow.com) — Flint's last Consumers Energy in-person payment center will close on Nov. 30, ending the option to pay utility bills directly at that office. Residents will need to switch to mail, phone, online payments, or nearby retail locations such as Meijer and Walmart, with 19 alternative payment sites available within 10 miles of Flint.
• Flint Fire Department increases staff by 30% under Fire Chief Theron Wiggins (wnem.com) — Flint's fire department has boosted its ranks from 68 to 92 firefighters, with 20 more recruits headed to the academy in January, strengthening local emergency response. Crews have handled over 2,400 calls this year with four-minute average responses, while Stations 6 and 8 are temporarily closed for long-overdue kitchen renovations.
• UM-Flint police chief to stay after reconsidering planned departure (mlive.com) — UM-Flint's chief of police, Ray Hall, has decided to remain in his role, continuing to oversee campus and community public safety in Flint. University leaders credit his community-based policing approach with reducing crime and building trust, and Hall says his deep connection to Flint and UM-Flint motivated him to stay and keep that work going.
