1. Flint teen taken into custody after troopers find pistol during traffic stop (wnem.com) — A 16-year-old Flint resident was detained after state troopers found a pistol with an altered serial number on his seat during a traffic stop near Kearsley Park. The teen, one of four in the car, was released to a parent while troopers prepare a report for the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office. An unloaded replica BB gun was also recovered.
2. Let's celebrate the people, organizations making a positive impact (geneseecountyview.com) — Flint residents and businesses are being invited to nominate standout neighbors, organizations, and workplaces for the 2026 Flint & Genesee Art of Achievement Awards, with nominations due by Oct. 2. The program honors young professionals, minority-owned and small businesses, nonprofits, hospitality workers, and attractions across Flint and Genesee County, with winners celebrated at a Nov. 4 ceremony at the FIM Capitol Theatre.
3. Dig in! MSU Organic Farmer Training expands to Flint in 2027 (msu.edu) — Flint residents interested in farming can now apply to Michigan State University's 2027 Organic Farmer Training Program, which is adding a new hands-on learning site at Edible Flint. Participants will gain practical skills, visit farms statewide, and may qualify for a Flint Farmer Scholarship supporting growers transitioning to organic production.
4. New Embury-Cook Road Trail Opens in Grand Blanc Township (wcrz.com) — Residents in and around Flint now have another way to explore Genesee County, thanks to the new Embury-Cook Road Trail in Grand Blanc Township, part of the larger Legacy Trails vision. Backed by up to $25 million from the Mott Foundation, the growing nonmotorized network aims to eventually link about 200 miles of trails across Flint and the county, improving recreation, safety, and neighborhood connectivity.
5. Flint-area football power rankings: Week 2 losses bring first major shakeup (mlive.com) — High school football fans around Flint can see how local teams stack up heading into Week 3, with Grand Blanc topping the latest area power rankings after a dominant win over Flint Carman-Ainsworth. The rundown highlights big performances, key players, and upcoming league openers involving schools like Linden, Goodrich, Bendle, Fenton, and Flint Kearsley. It's a handy snapshot before Friday's games.
