Fall is officially here in Flint, and there's no shortage of ways to make the most of it. From festivals and farmers markets to pumpkin patches, live music and other seasonal fun, October brings plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy what's happening close to home.

Where: Damouni Orchards, 2391 W. Reid Road, Flint, MI
Celebrate the peak of apple season at Damouni Orchard Apple Fest, a two-day harvest celebration at the Flint orchard. Visitors can pick apples, browse a craft and vendor show, take hayrides and enjoy live music, bounce houses, food trucks and concessions, along with the orchard's Country Store and Tasting Room. The annual festival celebrates the harvest season with activities and seasonal fun for the whole family
When: Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 9–24, 7–11 p.m.

A short drive from Flint, The Howling Haunted Trail sends visitors along a twisting, mile-long trail through dark woods filled with creatures, spirits and unexpected scares. Before their turn on the trail, guests can hang out in the midway with Halloween music, games and fire pits, with food, beverages and tarot card readings available for an additional cost. All proceeds benefit the animals at Adopt-A-Pet; advance tickets are strongly encouraged.
When: Select dates Oct. 3–30; weekdays, 5–9 p.m.; weekends, noon–9 p.m.
Where: Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad, 6140 N. Bray Road, Flint, MI
Trick-or-treat your way through historic Crossroads Village during Halloween Ghosts & Goodies, offered on select dates throughout October. Admission to the village includes 20 treat stops, a straw maze and a magic show in the Colwell Opera House, while combination tickets add a 40-minute ride aboard the Huckleberry Ghost Train Express. Tickets are available online or at the gate, though train tickets can sell out, so advanced purchases are recommended.
When: Tuesdays through Sundays, Sept. 30–Nov. 1, at 4 p.m.; select Fridays and Saturdays at 6 p.m.
Where: Longway Planetarium, 1310 E. Kearsley St., Flint, MI
Halloween music, colorful graphics and lights fill the dome during the Ooky Spooky Light Show at Longway Planetarium. The 45-minute, family-friendly show pairs Halloween favorites including "Monster Mash," "Ghostbusters" and "Thriller" with visuals created by the planetarium's own artists and programmers. Shows run at 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, with additional 6 p.m. shows on select Fridays and Saturdays; there is no 6 p.m. show Friday, Oct. 2.
When: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays year-round, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Flint Farmers' Market, 300 E. First St., Flint, MI
Shop local year-round at the Flint Farmers' Market, open three days a week in downtown Flint. More than 50 vendors operate inside the market, with additional vendors outdoors, offering produce, meat and poultry, breads and baked goods, cheese, specialty groceries, prepared foods, gifts and more. The indoor setting makes the market an easy stop throughout October regardless of the fall weather.
