2. Flint Branch NAACP 44th Annual Freedom Fund Dinner to take place October 10, with keynote speaker is Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II (theflintcouriernews.com) — Flint residents can reserve seats now for the Flint Branch NAACP's 44th Annual Freedom Fund Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 10 at St. Michael's Conference Center on East 5th Avenue. With Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II as keynote speaker, the black-tie gala will raise funds for local civil rights, education, health, and economic equity work benefiting Genesee County communities.
3. Making Strides breast cancer walks planned across Mid-Michigan (abc12.com) — Flint will host a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Downtown Development Authority parking lot, with tents opening at 8:30 a.m. and the walk at 10. Residents can join survivors, families and teams for music, activities and fundraising that supports research, a 24-hour helpline and free transportation to treatment, alongside a second event later in Saginaw County.
4. Google Maps Appears to Show Sidewalk Tattoo Session in Flint (mix957gr.com) — A quirky Google Maps image appears to show a sidewalk tattoo session happening right outside a Flint home, complete with a folding chair and makeshift setup. The piece also reminisces about Flint's music scene and beloved local bars, tapping into shared memories across the city and Genesee County.
5. HeART to Canvas earns Crime Stoppers of Flint and Genesee County national award (wnem.com) — Crime Stoppers of Flint and Genesee County just earned a national award for its HeART to Canvas project, which uses art to support healing and remembrance for local families.
