The owner's wife describes the emotional and financial strain, while community members have raised thousands of dollars to help the family cope during his detention.

Alongside Saginaw's chamber, the group wants Congress to create predictable rules so Mid-Michigan manufacturers, retailers, and service businesses can invest, hire, and grow with more confidence.

Michigan schools urge students to attend count day as attendance drives funding (midmichigannow.com) — Flint Community Schools is urging families to send students to class for Michigan's fall count day tomorrow, since those attendance numbers directly determine most of the district's state funding. Local schools are planning special activities, from character visits to special meals, to boost turnout and help secure resources for teachers, programs, and student support in Flint.
