Cavalier Pride: 5 Unforgettable Athletes From Carmen-Ainsworth High School
From local fields to national fame, these stars got their start in Flint.

Sports run deep in Flint, and Carmen-Ainsworth High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Cavalier uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Carmen-Ainsworth High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
Brandon Carr – NFL Ironman and Shutdown Cornerback
Carman-Ainsworth High School graduate Brandon Carr played 13 seasons in the NFL and was known for his remarkable durability, starting 192 consecutive games — the most of any active defensive player during his career. A fifth-round draft pick out of Grand Valley State, Carr exceeded expectations, quickly becoming a starting cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs. He later played for the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens, earning a reputation as a reliable defender and mentor. Carr was also the defender covering Odell Beckham Jr. during his viral one-handed catch, a moment that added to his notoriety. He finished his career with 139 pass deflections, 21 interceptions and a legacy of consistency and toughness. (Source: Pro-Football-Reference, Dallas Cowboys)

Known for her base running and strong defensive presence, she earned All-Conference honors and played for elite travel teams like the Mid-Michigan FireStix. Brown continued her athletic and academic journey at Bryant & Stratton College in Milwaukee, where she became one of the team’s primary pinch runners while maintaining a 3.87 GPA and earning Dean’s List recognition. Jeff Hamilton – World Series Champion and Versatile Dodger
A 1982 graduate of Carman-Ainsworth High School, Jeff Hamilton carved out a six-year MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, highlighted by a World Series title in 1988. The versatile third baseman became the team’s full-time starter in 1989, ranking sixth in the National League in doubles and leading all third basemen in putouts. Despite a torn rotator cuff that cut short his 1990 season, Hamilton’s gritty performances — including a rare relief pitching appearance in a 22-inning marathon game — made him a fan favorite. Jon Runyan – NFL Lineman, Congressman, and League Executive
Flint native and Carman-Ainsworth High School alum Jon Runyan had an impressive dual career as both an NFL offensive lineman and a U.S. Congressman. A two-time Michigan state shot put champion and All-State basketball player, Runyan went on to play football at the University of Michigan before being drafted by the Houston Oilers in 1996. He played 14 NFL seasons — primarily with the Philadelphia Eagles — and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2002. After retiring, Runyan represented New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district from 2011 to 2015, then returned to football as the NFL’s Vice President of Policy and Rules Administration.
