Mark Morand, at 85, oversees the operation of the food pantry at Our Lady of Peace parish, one of the numerous Bay City, Michigan parishes at which he has volunteered for almost 60 years. Although Mark’s efforts now are primarily administrative, he is known to drop everything to deliver food to a hungry vet whose disability check was delayed, to drive food to those who find themselves without transportation, to deliver food to a father who only had gum to ease his children’s hunger pangs.

Mark can’t help but notice that in years past, the parish served perhaps 5 to 6 families, but now finds itself serving up to 100. He worries about the parish’s ability to keep up with the need largely generated by the pandemic and its consequences. But Mark’s faith is strong, and his optimism and energy boundless. Truly a blessing to all who know him.
