A tribute to elder independence, this uplifting film, now in national release, is set in the Netherlands and Michigan.

About Old Heart:

Old Heart tells the story of Army Veteran Tom Johnson (Edward Gaines) who is determined to return to the Netherlands 60 years after the war to reconnect with the love of his life, Jewish translator Sarah van Praag (Eva Doueiri). Johnson’s children are in hot pursuit of their dad after he fails to show up on schedule for assisted living in Detroit and disappears on a flight to Amsterdam.

This mixed race love story, out for the 80th anniversary of European World War 2 liberation has just won the best feature from adapted screenplay award honors at the Marina Del Rey FIlm Festival in Los Angeles.

Here is what the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame's Donald Evans has to say about the film:

"The actors did very solid work in this film. It’s touching to watch a bunch of people come together to do something big and to witness their solidarity and utter belief in doing something great. This film was able to utilize a high-end Hollywood studio for post-production. This showed in the quality of the sound and stunning visuals. That kind of resourcefulness, along with pure passion, allows (this) small-budget project to overcome its disadvantages. This feature-length film becomes part of Peter Ferry's legacy. It’s a fine piece of work to leave behind."

We believe that the film Old Heart, will introduce the audience to people they have never met, places they may never have visited and ideas that may never have crossed their minds: it will help people connect to one another. Through such connections, the film drama can help to point the way to answers about what is ethical and what is true to our diverse heritage, traditions and history and help us address the challenges we face. It is also a tribute to elder independence.
