Gretchen Whitmer to the Wayne County 3rd Circuit Court, with his term starting September 14, 2026. His new role places a local voice on a key regional bench handling major county cases.
   

• Assumption Greekfest brings food, music, dancing and Greek heritage to metro Detroit this weekend (wxyz.com) — Assumption Greekfest is happening this weekend right at the St. Clair Shores–Grosse Pointe Woods border, offering food, music, dancing, and church tours. Organizers say it's a major community highlight, with homemade Greek pastries, kids' activities, and even an Olympian meet-and-greet planned.
   

• Corewell registered nurses ratify 1st contract with 15% pay increases (freep.com subscription) — Corewell Health nurses at multiple southeast Michigan hospitals, including the Grosse Pointe facility, have ratified their first union contract with a 15% raise over three years. The deal also adds a safe staffing committee, a PPO insurance option, and other workplace protections for roughly 10,000 registered nurses across the system.
