Crews Battle Major Fire At Historic Grosse Pointe Woods Country Club

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, MI — Firefighters were still battling a fire at the historic Lochmoor Country Club in Grosse Pointe Woods early Thursday morning, according to fire officials.

Officials asked the public to avoid the area while crews continue working to extinguish the fire completely.

"We understand the curiosity surrounding the active incident at Lochmoor Club; however, this is still an active fire scene," officials said in a statement. "Crews are still on scene working. Additional people, vehicles, and foot traffic near the scene create unnecessary hazards and can interfere with emergency operations."

The fire started Wednesday afternoon and quickly engulfed the entire building, officials said.

Videos posted to social media showed flames and smoke billowing from the building's roof.

Officials have not reported any injuries, but it appears the historic club is a total loss.

Officials have not yet explained how the fire started.

The Lochmoor Country Club opened in 1918. The private clubhouse includes tennis and pickleball courts, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness center, dining areas and a golf course.

The clubhouse has seen significant renovations over the past few years.
