I didn’t expect anything less than satisfaction when visiting the highly anticipated Atwater in the Park. Atwater teaming up with Epicurean Group is brilliant. You have a restaurant group who has proven excellence through many of their restaurants (Coach Insignia in the Detroit Renaissance Center, Plaza Deli in Southfield and Northern Lakes Seafood in Troy to name a few) and a brewing company that has perfected the art of beer making. To merge the two together, renovate a church, go with a community Bier Garten theme and serve German fare is a masterpiece in the making.
Atwater in the Park’s menu is very well priced. We ate a lot. When I say a lot, I mean we tried a little of everything including a large sampling of their beer and our bill was extremely reasonable.
For dinner I got the Chopped House Salad ($8) and my company got the Turkey Burger ($10) and Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich ($10).

We got three sides to share at $3 each; Spatzle, Potato Latke and German Potato Salad.
The. BEER. You can get a pint for around $6 average or a sampler with four beers around $1.50-$2.50 a beer. They serve the sampler on a labeled placemat. There are 40 draft handles at the main bar and 10 at the outdoor bar providing restaurant goers with lots of craft beer options.

They did not slack when designing Atwater in the Park. The interior is wide open and their brewing equipment is the centerpiece of the room highlighting the large bar area. We chose to sit outside and loved the Bier Garten experience. It provides such a true community, family feel. There were numerous people with strollers pulled beside the table, dogs on leashes sleeping under their owner’s feet and people of all ages walking, biking and driving up ready to indulge. The outdoor patio also has a small bar, large umbrellas providing shade to the communal tables and a cornhole bag set on the sidewalk for those craving a little competition.
