Beaumont Grosse Pointe Golf Classic Benefit
Pickleball and Bridge Tournament for Non-Golfers
On Monday, June 25th, the 35th Grosse Pointe Golf Classic will be hosted at the Country Club of Detroit. Funds raised at this annual event will benefit Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe’s Breast Care Center and the creation of a new hybrid surgical suite. More than 100 participants are expected to enjoy a day on the golf course, or play pickleball, followed by cocktails, a strolling dinner, gifts and prizes. New to the event this year is a Chicago-style bridge tournament.
Trish Moritz and Mickey Shield, both of Grosse Pointe Farms, are the 2018 event co-chairs. “We are honored to chair this important event in our community to help raise funds for projects that will benefit women and their families in Grosse Pointe,” said Moritz.
The Breast Care Center offers evaluation, management and long-term care for women with breast diseases and women considered to be high-risk for developing breast cancer. Services for women at the Center include screenings using the latest digital 3D mammography systems, also known as tomosynthesis.

The Hybrid Surgical Suite, will be the keystone of the surgical center renovation. The hybrid suite will allow Beaumont, Grosse Pointe surgeons to take a minimally invasive approach to surgeries, including vascular, thoracic and trauma. A minimally invasive approach results in enhanced outcomes with shorter recovery times, meaning less time in the hospital. The new suite will convert two existing operating rooms into one large suite containing the very latest in minimally invasive and imaging technologies.
“The outing is a great opportunity to support our community hospital and to have a hand in its growth,” said Mickey Shield. “The addition of the digital breast tomosynthesis system provides clearer and more accurate results, reducing additional screenings for women.”

In 2017, the Classic added a pickleball tournament to the agenda, involving a new audience of supporters. This year a Chicago-style bridge tournament will be held. The score is determined based on the first 20 hands of play. For those not as familiar with the game – or just need to be refreshed on the rules of paly – a bridge lesson is offered at 11:00 am (reservations required).
Reservations for golf, bridge and pickleball are available. To find out more, purchase tickets or become a sponsor, call (248) 551-6379 or visit www.beaumont.org/giving/foundation-events/grosse-pointe-golf-classic to register.
