Beaumont Grosse Pointe Golf Classic Benefits Breast Care Center and Special Care Babies
Pickleball to Attract New Audience
On Monday, June 19, the 34th Grosse Pointe Golf Classic will be hosted at the Country Club of Detroit. Funds raised at this annual event will benefit the Special Care Nursery and Breast Care Center at Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe. Lively pickleball play will be introduced this year to the day’s activities which also include golf, dining, entertainment, awards and prizes.
Beth Jaskolski of Grosse Pointe Farms and Patty Marantette of Grosse Pointe Park are the 2017 event co-chairs. “We are honored to chair this important event in our community to help raise funds for projects that will benefit women and babies at Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe,” said Marantette.
Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe Breast Care Center offers evaluation, management and long-term care for women with breast diseases and those who are considered high-risk for developing breast cancer. Services for women at the Breast Care Center continue to advance with the latest technology including digital breast tomosynthesis (3D) mammograms. Funds from the golf outing will help further programs and technology at the center. In addition, proceeds will support a Special Care Nursery to build upon the standard of excellence in the Shery L. and David B. Cotton, M.D. Family Birth Center.

“The outing is a great opportunity to support our community hospital and to have a hand in its growth,” said Beth Jaskolski. “The Breast Cancer Center is phenomenal, and a specialty care nursery creates the opportunity to attend to many more situations.”
Pickleball has been added to the agenda this year, drawing on a new audience of supporters. The paddle sport combines elements from tennis, badminton and ping-pong to create a game for all ages and skill levels. Peggy Kurza, South East Michigan’s USAPA Ambassador, will be on hand to review the simple rules and conduct instructional lessons for anyone wishing to participate. Equipment will be available at the event.
