Basket booze: SOC it to 'em!

Grosse Pointe Services for Older Citizens needs bottles for auction baskets.

Culling through the liquor cabinet in my rec room wet bar recently, I discovered that I had collected enough unopened bottles of hooch to stock a neighborhood speakeasy. Maybe even The Hill's bar for a couple of hours.

"Where could all this have come from?" I asked myself. Of course, I knew the answer.

As advancing age (and a couple of ulcer attacks) set in, alas, I swore off the hard stuff and went to the really cheap wines. So here's my cellar "man cave," stocked with dusty booze and wine bottles whose names I cannot pronounce. What to do with them? Give them to charity?

Whoa, wait a minute. What's this email? Grosse Pointe Services for Older Citizens is looking for any "unopened liquor and wine" bottles that donors might have taking up shelf space around the house. Seriously, now.

No, the SOC staff isn't going to drink 'em. They need 'em to help fill fund-raising party baskets for their upcoming auction and assorted other soirees they have planned.

You can drop your tax-deductible hooch contributions off at SOC's temporary headquarters in Henry Ford Medical Center -Cottage at 159 Kercheval. Call 882-9600 or email socdevelopment2@yahoo.com. They even have a "designated driver" who'll come and pick them up.

They're sending a flatbed truck to my place.  I made a special deal with them. They also have to take all the frozen pierogis in our freezer.

Cheers! Prost! L'chaim! Na zdrowie! Bottoms up!
