Drinking Pumpkin Pie is Surprisingly Enjoyable
Pumpkin Ales and how they are actually pretty good.
Cal at on Mack knows me pretty well. He knows my kids' names, my wife's name and my beer preferences. It's nice to walk in there and be recognized. When he asked me to try the Screamin' Pumpkin Spiced Ale, I kind of felt obliged to do it. First, it's made by Michigan Brewing Company in Webberville, and I like to support our local breweries. And second, it's beer and I like beer.
Normally, this isn't a beer I would pick up. Beer itself tastes pretty good, so I'm not often enamored with beer made to taste like something else. But I have to say, this pumpkin-flavored concotion isn't bad. It's almost like drinking a light cordial with dessert and though it tastes exactly like a pumpkin pie, the level of all-spice and cinnamon isn't overpowering or obnoxious. It's not oversweet either and I actually could drink a few of these in a row, but it's probably meant as a single drink with food.
There are a few other pumpkin beers out there right now that are worth trying as well, including Dogfish Head's Punkin Ale and Sam Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale.

I've had all three and the Screamin' Pumpkin is the best. You can get a sixer at Merchant's for $10 and tell Cal I say hello.
