The philosophy behind the Fishflies is not about competing at an intense level, but to come out and participate in the drill stations and distance running as best as your ability allows and have fun!

As with any sport proper equipment is a must.  We require that the kids wear a running shoe or the shoe they use for physical education class. Things to consider when purchasing running shoes for kids ages is 5-9 are as follows:

  • Shop for shoes at the end of the day when feet have expanded
  • Measure both feet and allow for a half-inch between the end of the foot then fit the shoes to the larger foot
  • Try on shoes with socks that will be worn most often, make sure the heals don’t slip
  • Go for a short test run/walk to make sure the shoes are comfortable
  • Break the shoes in gradually

At age 10 the American Podiatric Medical Association recommends a good, stable running shoe. Head to the running store to have kids specific biomechanics evaluated, and buy a good fitting shoe that meets their structural needs.

Well put those running shoes on and come out and join the GP Fishflies as we take Grosse Pointe by swarm! Remember GP Fishflies- “We run like there’s no tomorrow!”
