I was planning on writing about a few of my favorite natrual/organic establishments in Grosse Pointe Park...because they are wonderful and need a shout out. However, there is something very FRESH in my mind that I must share before I explode.
Eastern Market Tuesdays is a scaled down version of Saturday's Eastern Market. It is a beautiful oasis of fresh fruits, veggies and Michigan food vendors in the middle of a weekday.

I work in Downtown Detroit and try to get out to eat around the area and this was by far my favorite experience to date!
Here are the details of my memorable trip...

It was a sunny day in D-town and I headed out to the open market and I was very hungry. My first stop was a booth run by the Detroit Youth Food Brigade (Eastern Market Corporation’s Detroit Youth Food Brigade is a youth entrepreneur training program bringing delicious locally grown & prepared foods to Detroit Eastern Market Tuesdays. The Food Brigade is teaching our future leaders to harness their passions and leverage their strengths in shaping a healthier, brighter, and stronger tomorrow.) where I ordered a ripe sliced mango with fresh squeezed lime juice and chili powder on top. It was AMAZING!
Next I moved on to a booth run by the Detroit Zen Center where I enjoyed a raw chocolate brownie and talked about my favorite product (which they were out of) Kale Chips seasoned with Tahini and spices.
Onward to another booth run by the Detroit Youth Food Brigade that were selling fresh (and warm) falafel sandwiches. I also enjoyed a taste of the veggie lagsnga they were selling.
And, I saved the best for last. I went right over to McClure's Pickles, where I not only bought a jar of spicy pickles and tasted their bloody mary mix and some relish, but found out that they now make POTATO Chips-Spicy Dill Pickle and Garlic Dill Pickle flavored chips. At a $1 a bag, I bought both! YUM (although, I didn't eat the chips and pickles at the market...I was too full)
So, the moral of my story is that this is a fantastic way to spend a Tuesday! The market is open from 11am-7pm in Shed 2 at the Eastern Market located on the corner of Russel St. and Winder St. in Detroit.
I promise Grosse Pointe, next blog is all about YOU.
