Broadway Star To Perform in Grosse Pointe Concert
Broadway Star and Grosse Pointe North Alumna to perform concert on Saturday May 9th
The Grosse Pointe North Performing Arts Department is excited to announce a special “Night on Broadway” Presented by Edmund T Ahee Jewelers. This concert will feature a performance by Broadway star and Grosse Pointe North Distinguished Alum Sandra Joseph and students from the Grosse Pointe North Performing Arts. The performance will take place on Saturday May 9th at 7:30pm at the Grosse Pointe Performing Arts Center.
Sandra Joseph is a singer, actress, author, and key note speaker who holds the world record for being the longest-running leading lady in Broadway’s longest-running show. For ten years and more than 1,300 performances, she starred in one of the best-known roles in Broadway history: Christine Daae in The Phantom of the Opera.
The concert will serve as a benefit performance for the inaugural “Sandra Joseph Performing Arts Scholarship” which will be presented each year to a Grosse Pointe North senior who plans to pursue a career in the performing arts.

“Working through the inherent vulnerability of performing in front of an audience helps strengthen the courage muscles,” said Broadway star Sandra Joseph. “Performing builds communication skills and offers the camaraderie of being part of a team to those students not inclined toward sports. The arts helped me feel a sense of connection and belonging, something every high school student needs. I’m honored to be kicking off the Sandra Joseph Performing Arts Scholarship with a benefit concert on May 9th that will put GPN’s current stars front and center. Supporting the next generation is one way I hope to express my gratitude to those who supported me,” added Sandra.
In 2006, Sandra’s personal journey from shy kid in Detroit to leading lady on Broadway was featured on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah called Sandra “one of Broadway’s biggest stars” and “an inspiration.”
