Buckle Up, Grosse Pointe Police Say

The annual Click It or Ticket campaign kicked off its spring seatbelt enforcement this week. The enhanced enforcement will continue through the holiday weekend to June 5.

Police officers in and are participating in the annual Click It or Ticket campaign in an effort to remind drivers and passengers of the heightened safety of wearing a seatbelt.

More than 200 departments statewide are participating in the national campaign, according to a release by Grosse Pointe Woods Public Saftey. The Woods plans to use daytime seatbelt enforcement zones and nighttime roving patrols, according to the release.

In Michigan, more than half of motorist fatalities involve an unbelted person and the campaign aims to educate as well as encourage regular seatbelt usage.

All drivers and front seat passenger are required to wear a seatbelt and passengers who are 15 or younger must wear a seatbelt regardless of their location within vehicle.

Children are required to be restrained in a car seat or booster seat until 8 years of age or until they reach 4-foot-9 in height, whichever comes first.

Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety Department does offer car seat inspection to check for proper installation by a certified child safety seat technician. Anyone wishing to have an inspection is asked to call the department to schedule an appointment, 313-885-2100.
