Christ in Everything?

I had someone recently say “I don't think that you need to add Christ to everything you do to be a good Christian.”  Thankfully, I am not the judge to tell you whether or not you are a good Christian, that is between you and God.  What I can do is answer this question for me, personally.  You are right; I don’t need to add Christ to everything I do to be a good Christian because He is already there!  The real question is, do I recognize it?

God knew us before we were born.  “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb” Psalm 139:13 There is nothing that happens to us that God doesn’t know or care about.  “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” Luke 12:7.  Christ told us that He would be with us, always and forever.  “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” Matthew 28:20b.  There is nothing that I face, nothing that I go through in life, where Christ is not there.  “Where can I go from your Spirit?   Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” Psalm 139:7-10

My problem is that sometimes I forget.  I forget that Christ is with me all the time through the gift of the Holy Spirit.  When I am driving my car, when I am disciplining my daughter, when I am picking up after my husband, Christ is there.  We so often miss the blessing it is that God cares about every part of us.  God cares about the smallest details and the biggest pictures.  God does not abandon us just because we are only doing work around the house, or running errands and not doing “great things” for Him.  God doesn’t even abandon us when we abandon Him.

I have the blessing and opportunity to be a part of Christ’s work in the world every minute of every day.  I have the blessing to be in God’s presence, to worship Him, to praise Him, to talk to Him anywhere and everywhere, but many times, I am more focused on other things.  We get easily distracted by the world around us, by trying to do everything on our own, by thinking we are on our own.  Christ wants to have a relationship with us where we recognize His presence with us all the time.  A relationship where we know we can depend on Him for strength, wisdom, guidance, grace, mercy and love to live our daily (even sometimes mundane) lives.

I pray that God would make me even more aware of His presence in my life.  That God would help me develop a relationship with Him that is so deep that I know in my heart and soul that He is with me every single minute.  I pray that I would learn to trust Him more, and to depend on Him more for my daily living.  I pray that I would be so connected to the Savior, in everything I do and for everything I need, that Christ is truly able to work in and through me in everything I do.
