If you don't exercise regularly, this is for you. You need to start somewhere and you need to start NOW!
Far too often people spend too much time researching and not enough doing. We may Google some stuff or talk to our friends. Buy some magazines or even look up what our friends are doing on Facebook. By the time we're done with our research we usually get so confused or overwhelmed that we just put it off again. If this has happened to you, you need to stop researching and get started.
I give you the 100 Day Burpee Challenge!
The burpee challenge isn't something I came up with, nor is it something I've done. It is something however that a lot of my clients have done and what they've all told me is that it is rewarding, takes dedication and is very effective. The 100 Day Burpee Challenge is perfect for beginners that really aren't sure where to start. It can even be a good supplement for somebody already living an active lifestyle.
Here are the details on the challenge.
On day one you will do 1 burpee. On day two, 2 burpees etc, etc. Continuing on until you reach day 100. On day 100 you get to do 100 burpees!
Here are the details.
*You may miss/bank 1 day of burpees only. Meaning - if you miss a day you MUST make up the missed burpees the following day. So for instance - if you missed day 20 you will need to do 41 burpees the next day. Also - if you would like you may bank a day. So if on day 30 you did 61 burpees you would get day 31 off and then jump right back in with 32 burpees on day 32. Simple enough right? Do the burpees at your convenience throughout the day...or do them all at once as fast as you can. It's up to you.
Here are a few more tips.
1. Time yourself on day 25, 50, 75 and 100.
2. Before you get started time yourself doing as many as possible in 2 mins/5 mins then do it again after you are done. See how many more you are able to do in the same time.
3. Get some friends together and create a FB group. Track each others progress and compare times/struggles etc.
(These aren't requirements - just a few ideas to make the challenge more interesting)
In the end you will have committed to something and stuck with it. You'll also have done over 5000 burpees!
Most people do all that research and just start running anyway - then they need to go buy new shoes, watch, clothes, GPS, water belt, reflective gear, update their iTunes...anybody can do burpees in the comfort of their own home. But if you want to run, be my guest.
Don't put it off. If you're thinking about starting, just lay down on the ground, get up jump and clap. There! You're done with day 1!
And guess what? If you start today you'll finish on Thanksgiving Day!!! I'll be right there with you as I'm starting today as well.
What the heck is a burpee anyway? For a demo video click the link below.
