EAST SIDE HOCKEY FOUNDATION ANNCOUNCES FIRST ANNUAL FALL CLASSIC

Event offers attendees the opportunity to play on the ice at Joe Louis Arena while raising funds to grow youth hockey in Detroit

Detroit, MI (August 24, 2015) – Enjoy a hat-trick of hockey games, fun food and fabulous auction items at the first annual Fall Classic, a fundraiser dedicated to growing youth hockey on the east side of Detroit. The event will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 beginning at 5:30 PM at Joe Louis Arena.

Tickets cost $250 per skater, which includes the opportunity to play at the Joe and a dinner ticket. Dinner tickets cost $150 individually or $250 per couple and includes strolling dinner, a tour of Joe Louis Arena, entertainment and a gift.

All funds raised benefit East Side Hockey Foundation (ESHF), a newly formed non-profit dedicated to growing youth hockey on the east side of metro Detroit. The Foundation acquired the Grosse Pointe Community Rink, re-naming it the East Side Hockey Foundation Ice Arena, in August 2014.

“The Fall Classic is wonderful opportunity to raise funds to expose children in Detroit to hockey,” says Brian Francis, president of the board of directors. “Hockey provides players important life skills that will assist them on and off the ice. We’ve been working with local neighborhoods to make hockey accessible and affordable for all children, regardless of the income level of the family, and we’re ready to take this effort to the next level with our first annual fundraising event.”

To date, ESHF has provided equipment, subsidized ice-time, and scholarships to local families in need. The organization donated 200 sets of equipment to children ages 3-8 as part of its Learn to Play Hockey 8U program. ESHF reduced ice-time costs at the arena up to 72 percent during the 2014/15 season, which represented a savings of $95,000 for local families. The organization also hosts Try Hockey for Free days at the arena, which gives local kids the chance to step on the ice and experience the thrill of hockey at no cost.

Ticket can be purchased by visiting www.eshffallclassic.eventbrite.com. For additional information, please visit www.ESHFoundation.com. Tax-deductible donations can be made by visiting the website, or by mailing a check payable to East Side Hockey Foundation to: 26333 Jefferson, Suite 102, St. Clair Shores, MI 48081.
