
It's time for a full day of fun, music and film with the kickoff of the free 4th Fridays in the Park entertainment series at Campus Martius.
Highlights include the Detroit Music Awards “Jam Fest,” sponsored by the Detroit Music Awards and Campus Martius Park, and includes musical talent The Wall Clocks (voted “Best Local Band” by Ambassador) and 2011 Detroit Music Award Outstanding World/Reggae/Ska Instrumentalist Sean Blackman in an ensemble of 2011 DMA award winners and nominees with Skeeto Valdez, Liz Larin, Pathe Jassi, Julien Labro, Eliza Neals, Dan Schamtz and Mark Harper.
New this year is comedy during Happy Hour (4:30-7 p.m.), presented by Real Detroit and Marketing Associates. Joey’s Comedy Club presents “Stand Up in Detroit,” hosted by Garri Madera and featuring Brad Austin, Mike O’Keefe, Darnell Anderson and Amy Rudd.
From 7-8 p.m. enjoy dance performances by Hip Hop Dance Company Hardcore Detroit and The Jitterbugs, who'll demonstrate urban styles such as jitting, breaking, popping, locking and house.
At Halftime, from 8-8:45 p.m., the Shops @ Compuware present a Fashion Show with Joe Faris of “Project Runway” fame featuring jewelry collections from Detroit’s Richard Wright of Wrighteous Jewelry.
A special pre-release screening of “The Jitterbugs: Pioneers of the Jit” is the feature movie, 10:30 p.m.-midnight. This documentary celebrates the Detroit ensemble and the unique dance form they innovated and performed worldwide.
