It's Time for the Perch Derby

It's time for catch some fishy fun with the Jack Boni Family Perch Derby.

The June 18 event is sponsored by the Grosse Pointe Woods Citizens Recreation Commission and will be held at Lake Front Park. Drop your line from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and at 2 p.m. weigh your catch of yellow perch.

Awards will be divided into Pier and Boat fishing divisions, and prizes will be handed out in several categories, including biggest fish by length and total number of fish.

Hot dogs, potato chips and beverages will be served at noon.

Event is open to Grosse Pointe Woods residents and their guests. Everyone fishing must comply with Michigan DNR rules and regulations, including obtaining a fishing license. At least one adult must be registered on a team with any children under the age of 14.

Register by 5 p.m. June 15 at the Community Center. The fee is $5 per person; children under five years of age fish free; non-fishing lunch ticket is $3. Registration forms are available online at www.gpwmi.us and at the Community Center.
