I think everyone has baseball fever right now. Everyone is watching and talking about baseball. Go Tigers! People are quoting statistics and talking about what the coaches should have done at any given moment. Watching the game can be fun, and being there is even better! The cheer of the crowd, the smell of the grass the popcorn, the thrill of the game! I know people who would give anything to be able to be there in person to watch the game, especially if/when the Tigers make it to the World Series!
As I am watching game 3 of the ACLS and preparing for a church meeting, I wonder how many people view Christianity the same way. We like to be able to say we saw it happen. We were there to cheer the real players on as they shared the gospel or when out into the world to be the hands and feet of Christ. We eagerly wait for the real players to get on the field to start playing for God, and we do the wave and shout positive things to help cheer them on. We try to make every game, if we are not busy. Some people can even say they make every game. Go Team God!
The problem is there should be no spectators in this game. Too many times we think that being a spectator is enough. We gave time to cheer others on, so we check it off our to-do list and get back to our normal lives. But that is not what God calls us to. We are all called to be players on the team. In the great commission in Matthew 28, Jesus doesn’t say that some should go out and share the good news. He doesn’t say that just the players with can speak well, or have studied a lot should go. We are all called to go and make disciples of all nations.

We are all players on this team. We are all called to take the good news of Jesus Christ out into the world around us. We are all called to be the hands and feet of Christ to our families, our friends, our neighbors, and our coworkers. We are called to live out the gospel of Jesus Christ through our words and our actions. So let’s all take the field, trusting God as our coach, and play ball!
