GROSSE POINTE FARMS, MI – A prominent Grosse Pointe Farms interior designer is in critical condition after he was stabbed Sunday in a dispute at his home on Voltaire Place, police said Monday.

Daniel Clancy, 69, was discovered lying in a pool of blood on a sidewalk near his home about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Lt.Richard Rosati of the Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety told The Detroit News.

Police don’t think the attack — which left Clancy bleeding profusely from his neck — was random. He was “somewhat coherent,” Rosati said, and made his way to the sidewalk after a struggle inside the home.

Police said the door to Clancy’s home was unlocked and there were groceries in his car. He had just returned home from a shopping trip to Costco.

Rosati told the newspaper that police have a person of interest in the assault, but declined to provide additional information. Michigan State Police detectives are assisting in the investigation.

Clancy was in critical condition Monday at St. John Hospital, a spokesman said.
