Grosse Pointe Park Residents File Class Action Suit Against City
Homeowners frustrated with city's lack of response after sewage backup.

(Originally published Oct. 17, 2016) GROSSE POINT PARK, MI — About 200 residents gathered outdoors last week to hear potential legal solutions for damage recovery following record flooding in September. Attorney Philip Bazzo told the crowd they have options for class action litigation against the city. With the authorization of several attendees, he has now filed a class action lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court.
Bazzo's meeting was originally scheduled to take place in the Trombly auditorium but the meeting was abruptly cancelled 24 hours before. He moved it outdoors to the playground, according to Grosse Pointe News.
On the morning of Sept. 29, torrential rains caused about 250 homeowners from several blocks south of Jefferson to experience backup of sewage into their basements, ranging from a few inches to several feet after the city was forced to turn off the storm pumps.
