A man accused of holding a gun to the head of a Grosse Pointe Woods woman while he raped her faces multiple felony charges.

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, MI — A Detroit man accused of raping a woman at gunpoint in her Grosse Pointe Woods home in April faces multiple felony charges. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy called Gerald Duane Day, 28, a “dangerous predator” and said his arrest is the result of multijurisdictional cooperation.

A 37-year-old woman reported to Grosse Pointe Woods police that a man broke into her home about 6:30 a.m. on April 18 and raped her while he held a gun to her head, Worthy said in a news release. He fled on foot after the assault, Grosse Pointe Woods police said.

Day is charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (during felony with weapon), one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct (during felony with weapon), one count of assault with intent to commit armed robbery, one count of felon in possession of a weapon, and one count of felony firearm.

Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Director John Kosanke also praised cooperation from other law enforcement agencies.

“I would like to acknowledge the work of the Michigan State Police Crime Lab,” Kosanke said in the news release. “This case is a great example of many different agencies working together to make the Grosse Pointe communities a safe place.”

The facts and evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination. Day’s arraignment is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8, in Grosse Pointe Woods Municipal Court.
