Mother Of Harper Woods Killer Dies After Son Stabbed Her During Attack: Report

It's the third death linked to 23-year-old Jonathan Welch, who police said went on a violent crime spree inside a Harper Woods home.

HARPER WOODS, MI — A Harper Woods mom, who authorities said bailed out her son two days before he killed his stepfather and girlfriend, died Tuesday after she was stabbed by her son in the same attack, multiple reports said.

It's the third death linked to 23-year-old Jonathan Milamont Welch, who police said went on a violent crime spree last week, beating his 70-year-old stepfather and 22-year-old girlfriend to death inside a Harper Woods home on the 20600 block of Kenosha near Moross Road and Interstate 94.

Welch then stabbed his mother during the attack, severely injuring her as she ran out of the house, police said. She was listed in critical condition at a nearby hospital for several days before she died, reports said.

After the attack, Welch then locked himself inside the house, prompting a seven-hour standoff with police that finally ended when he surrendered to officers without incident, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officers then entered the home and found the two dead bodies as well as Welch's 1-year-old son in the backyard, police said. The 1-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
