Hillary Clinton Will Campaign in Detroit Monday: Updated
The appearance comes a day after the town hall presidential debate on Sunday and a day before Michigan's voter registration deadline.
Updated. DETROIT, MI — Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton plans a public event in Detroit Monday, her campaign said Thursday. The event, to be held a day after she and Republican rival Donald Trump meet in the second of three televised debates, will be held at 2:45 p.m.Monday at the Matthaei Center on the campus of Wayne State University.
The visit is the former secretary of state’s second to Michigan since winning her party’s nomination. She campaigned at a Warren aerospace manufacturing facility on Aug. 11, days after Trump said in a major economic policy speech that Detroit’s challenges are an example of Clinton’s failed agenda. In Warren, Clinton said his plan would throw the economy back into recession and further pinch America’s working class.
The visit comes after a new poll shows Clinton with an 11-percentage-point lead over Trump in Michigan, a winner-take-all state, meaning that whoever wins the state gets all of its 16 electoral votes.

Despite the polling lead, the Clinton campaign isn’t taking the state for granted and is making a big push among Michigan voters. Her one-time rival, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was scheduled to campaign in Dearborn, Ann Arbor, East Lansing and Grand Rapids Thursday, following visits by surrogates President Bill Clinton and the couple’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, in the past few days and weeks.
