'Live from Orchestra Hall': A DSO Concert is Just a Click Away

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) has revealed that it will air 13 high-definition “Live from Orchestra Hall” webcasts. 

“The webcasts by the DSO are a wonderful new way for audiences to connect with live symphonic music, and remind us of how the arts enrich us,” said Dennis Scholl, Knight Foundation’s vice president/arts.

“The webcasts have made experiencing a live DSO concert just as easy as watching a football game or streaming your favorite TV show,” said Scott Harrison, executive producer of digital media. “We’re aiming at becoming the most accessible orchestra on the planet, and Knight Foundation has played an important role in our pursuit of that goal.”

The series kicks off Jan. 22, with a live performance of “Franck’s Symphony in D Minor” with Hélène Bouchez conducting and Conrad Tao on piano. During intermission, host Alex Trajano will interview DSO Principal Oboe Don Baker, pianist Conrad Tao, and Aaron Dworkin, founder and president of the Sphinx Organization.

Webcasts are produced in collaboration with Detroit Public Television. They are streamed on the DSO, DPTV and WRCJ-FM websites, as well as on the DSO to Go mobile app for iOS and Android platforms.

The series made possible by a $90,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
