New Charges Against Suspected Teen Serial Rapist
A Grosse Pointe Farms woman was the first woman attacked in a spree that may include the rape and possibly death of teen.

GROSSE POINTE PARK, MI – A Detroit teen— already in custody on $1 million bond in the stabbing and attempted sexual assault of one woman and a suspect in the rape and assault of a 17-year-old girl who died two days after she was attacked — was charged Thursday with attacking a Grosse Pointe Park Farms woman last December.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement that the prosecution and conviction of Darian Winfield, 18, is expected “bring closure to several crimes in Wayne County.”
In the latest case, Winfield is accused of stabbing a 48-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman in the face, neck and chest and attempting to sexually assault her as she walked in the 1400 block of Cadieux in Grosse Pointe Park shortly after midnight on Dec. 13.

Winfield allegedly spoke briefly to the woman after approaching her on a sidewalk, then stabbed her several times before fleeing. The victim called 911, and was treated for injuries at a local hospital and released.
Winfield was expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon on assault with intent to commit murder in Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Court, Worthy said.

Detroit police arrested Winfield on Friday, Jan. 8, after spotting him in the 5900 block of Harrell. On Thursday, police released a photo of Winfield and alleged he was a serial rapist who had broken into three homes in a one-mile radius before attacking his victims. Police warned that Winfield was armed and dangerous; and that attacks on women have become increasingly violent.
The woman survived her injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital after she called 911. The charges against Winfield in her attack includeassault with intent to commit murder, assault to commit criminal sexual conduct and first-degree home invasion in her attack.
Winfield is a suspect in two other sexual assaults.
Police suspect him of trying to rape a woman as she slept in her bed in the 5000 block of Haverhill, but he hasn’t been charged.
He also hasn’t been charged in the Jan. 7 sexual assault of a 17-year-old in her home in the 5500 block of Radnor around 7:30 a.m. She was stabbed and taken to a hospital, but died two days later after her family took her off life support.
Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody told the Free Press that Winfield is a suspect in the teen’s assault and possibly her death, but charges haven’t been filed pending a report from the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“We’ll continue to investigate this case,” he said. “We will be looking at some other charges. It’s definitely not off the table. Everything is still open.”
