Police Blotter: Hit, Run Crash Ends in Arrest

The following information was gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

A 54-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man was arrested Feb. 21 by Grosse Pointe Farms police after he alleged struck a car at Moran and Kercheval and left the scene. Witnesses called police after seeing the truck strike the other vehicle and continue driving. Officers were able to locate vehicle, and after a Breathalyzer test, determined the man had a 0.15 blood alcohol content. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated, and hit and run property damage accident.

iPad left in cab

A 43-year-old Grosse Pointe resident reported he took a Yellow Cab from downtown Detroit to the on Notre Dame. After the driver left, he realized he left his iPad in the vehicle. He unsuccessfully attempted to reach the cab company, and was able to track the iPad to Utica before losing its signal.

Close call for officer

Grosse Pointe police stopped a 27-year-old Mt. Clemens resident early Feb. 22 at Jefferson and Neff after the Lexus he was driving nearly struck an officer's cruiser, and then sped away. Officers stopped the vehicle and gave the man a Breathalyzer test. He had a 0.10 blood alcohol level and was ticketed for operating while impaired and speeding.

Marijuana possession

A Grosse Pointe Farms man was arrested for marijuana possession Feb. 23 after an officer on patrol in the area of Charlevoix and Kenwood stopped the car he was riding in after spotting it driving erratically. While speaking with occupants of the car, an officers spotted a pill container belonging to the 18-year-old and found 3.6 grams of marijuana packed in the bottle. Investigators are seeking possession with intent to deliver charges.

Driving with out a medical marijuana license

Grosse Pointe Farms police stopped a Mercedes SUV early Feb. 21 near Provencal and Lake Shore after an officer observed the registration and break light were out on the vehicle. When the officer approached, he could smell marijuana coming from the car. Upon further investigation, officers found 1.1 grams marijuana in the vehicle. The 20-year-old Sterling Heights man said he had a medical marijuana cad, but could not provide documentation. He also had a suspended license. He was cited for driving with a suspended license and defective equipment, and may face additional charges.
