Police Blotter: K9 Officer Stops Man Tampering with Cars

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety from the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

police assisted in the arrest of a man who was tampering with cars on the Ray Lathem lot Jan. 29 about 12:30 a.m. and told officers he was armed with weapons.

Security officers pointed City and Detroit police to the man. He was between cars and threatened to shoot the officer. He repeatedly refused to cooperate or show his hands and said he was armed with two guns. Eventually he turned his back to the officer and the City's K9 officer, Raleigh, was sent to the man. Raleigh took the man down by biting his right arm, shoulder and possibly part of his face. Detroit Police took custody of the man and intended to take him to a crisis center, according to a report.

Drug Paraphernalia Confiscated

City of Grosse Pointe police were called to a resident's home Jan. 27 after the homeowner determined her son was shooting heroin in her bathroom. When she confronted him through the closed door, the man ran from the home, and was not there when officers arrived. The woman said she picked her son up a short time before near a pharmacy on Alter Road and when they arrived home, he went into the bathroom. She could hear him preparing the drugs and called police. Officers took the paraphernalia into evidence custody and the mother provided some information about where they might find her son, according to a report.

Jewelry Discovered Missing

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating the theft of about $2,000 worth of jewelry from a home in the 300 block of Notre Dame on Jan. 23. The owner of the jewelry called police after noticing the jewelry was missing. She explained she had just moved into the house after moving from another Grosse Pointe community and that she believed her home may have been entered while she was doing laundry in the basement. She tried to make contact with the neighbors, but no one was home. She also told police she is going through a "nasty divorce," according to a report.

Student's Purse Stolen

The father of a 12-year-old student reported that her purse was stolen during first hour Jan. 25. The man reported the theft because the daughter had a house key inside, according to a report.

Car Stolen from St. John's Lot

police are investigating the theft of a Pontiac Bonneville from the parking lot of between 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 24. He parked his car and when he returned after leaving the hospital, the man could not find his car and reported the theft to security and Woods police, according to a report.

Man Found in Gas Station Bathroom

Grosse Pointe Woods public safety officers took a Grosse Pointe Shores man to the hospital via ambulance Jan. 21 after he was found unresponsive on floor of the bathroom at the at Mack Avenue and Vernier Road. When paramedics arrived, the man was found to have two syringes in his pockets. He became alert and responsive after he was loaded into the ambulance. He told officers he had purchase heroin near 7 Mile and Gratiot the same day just before coming to the gas station in the Woods, according to a report.
