Police Blotter: Police Investigate Stolen Furniture

Police departments in the Pointes also investigate a motorist driving without a license and a case of identity theft.

Missing furniture

Police were called Monday to a home in the 2000 block of Vernier for missing furniture. The resident said five pieces of furniture were delivered to their home Monday afternoon. Later in the evening a relative of the homeowner moved two pieces of furniture into the home, and three pieces were missing.

Long record

An officer stopped a car traveling north on Harper near Allard with expired tags. The driver of the car did not have a license, and when her record was checked, it was discovered that she had 15 current suspensions on her record and three misdemeanor warrants out of Detroit. The 24-year-old driver was ticketed for driving while license suspended, second offense, improper plant and no valid proof of insurance. She will be arraigned on the charges May 4.

Grosse Pointe Farms

Stolen identity

A 53-year resident called police Wednesday to report purchases were made on his deceased wife's credit card. According to police reports, the man was contacted by his credit card company that a $720 purchase was made on her card. The account was closed, but while he was working on his taxes, it was determined that the victim’s wife's Social Security number was also being used on another return. Police are investigating.

Stolen vehicle

A resident called police Saturday, March 12, to report a suspicious man at the door of a home on 1300 block of Cadieux asking for a screwdriver because his car would not start. A short time later, police received a call that an unknown man had stolen a 1977 Pontiac from a resident's driveway. Officers stopped the car on Vernor at Yorkshire and the 42-year-old driver from Detroit was arrested on car theft charges.
