Police Blotter: Solicitor Arrested, Drunken Driver Stopped

Speed Racer

Grosse Pointe Shores police stopped a 23-year-old Harrison Township man who was driving 49 mph on Lake Shore Drive on the evening of Sept. 25. The man was ticketed for driving without a license and not wearing a seat belt.

An employee of  called police after the store's dumpster was filled with illegally dumped carpet. This is the second time this has occurred in recent weeks.

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a 20-year-old Trenton man on a concealed weapons violation, obstruction and felony warrant after a resident called about a solicitor complaint. Officers were called to the 1700 block of Newcastle after the men were soliciting without proper identification. After being interview by police, officers found a 3 1/2-inch folding knife on the man, according to a report. Additionally, officers determined there was a warrant for his arrest.

Buyer Plays the Wrong Tune 

A 57-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms resident contacted police after someone attempted to use a fake check to purchase a piano she listed for sale on Craigslist. The prospective buyer had sent a certified check with extras funds for shipping and removal of the posting on Craigslist. She was contacted a few days later from the buyer, stating the that check was too much and asked to have the check cashed with the rest of the money to be sent to him by Western Union. She took the check to a local bank, where they determined it be fake. Officers are investigating.

Report: Intoxicated Teen in School Bathroom

Officers were called to about 9 p.m. Friday after a report of an intoxicated teen in a bathroom. The 16-year-old from Grosse Pointe Shores was reportedly sick in a stall, and when police arrived, she tried to flee. Officers attempted to administer a preliminary breath test, but the girl got sick again. She was transported to for treatment. Charges are pending.

World Traveler

A 47-year-old Hazel Park man was arrested about 11 p.m. Sept. 20 in the 400 block of Touraine for allegedly possessing marijuana and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. A resident called police after the driver allegedly asked him "where he was at" because he was "from another country." Officers found marijuana, a bottle of vodka in his car and found he had a .331 blood alcohol content, according to a report. He was taken to for treatment.

Stolen Car Recovered

Grosse Pointe City police officers observed Monday morning a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Notre Dame that was reported stolen out of Detroit. A short time later, police had the 1988 Chevrolet Caprice towed. A 25-year-old from Detroit came to the police station to report that her car was stolen. She was questioned and arrested for an outstanding traffic warrant and stolen property.
